yellow sky above the rooftops in the city

it didn’t matter what song was on the radio,

it didn’t matter what time it was,

or where we were headed,

we just co-exsisted as one,

in recognition of this humbling, gorgeous sight

we gave two swift “oh, wow’s”

and for a moment,

my father & i remembered to breathe

commercial, tattooed
against lonely barren walls
empty nest, unwilling
shattered, heartbreak calls

drive bys, once enlightening
flourishing, in bloom
replaced with goodbyes
eyes stained with gloom

fear in your bones
with deep love in your heart
